when one don't know about his gotra, what to do ?-
If you don’t know your gotra, tradition is quite accommodating—there’s no bar to worship.
Here are the accepted approaches:
Use “Kashyapa Gotra”: In many traditions, Kashyapa is regarded as a universal lineage reference. Priests often assign this by default.
Say “Gotra-unknown” (అజ్ఞాత గోత్రం / Ajñāta Gotra) during sankalpa—this is fully valid.
Follow family custom: Sometimes elders may recall it; if later discovered, you can adopt it.
Proceed without it: Bhakti (intent) matters more than formal identifiers.
In practice, no ritual becomes invalid just because the gotra is unknown.
