Deepaavali . Festival of light. Light means wisdom. 
"Bharat" means worshiper of light/wisdom. All  people of Bharat varsha  are great learners,seekers of real knowledge. the eternal truth that disseminate darkness of ignorance,laziness and fear.
Indians respect wisdom where ever it is and who ever it has.
Indians celebrate diwali in sweet remembrance of victory of goodness over bad.
Indians adore Heroes and have full faith on their deeds and worship them.
Indians see the god in man with high morals and see the demon in the man with cruelty.
"Great sadguru sri krishna along with satyabhama vanquished the cruel and sadistical demon narakasura.
People of Ayodhya brightened their homes on the eve of Lord Rama's return to his kingdom from exile.

The battle between  human mental compartments,between sensual arishadvargas and budhi and
the regulation and control of desire,anger and greed leading to brightening of our wisdom and ignites eternal spark of divine consciousness  and the essence of this festival is  – to rejoice in the Inner Light (Atman) or the underlying Reality of all things (Brahman).

Let us remove the veil of Maya-fear,prejudice,laziness,selfishness,greed,anger,desire & ignorance and thus, experience the light .
then that lightning experience be shared with others in the coming month of kaarteeka. This is depicted in our culture as 'Deepa Daanam'.( SPREADING & SHARING THE WISDOM)

DEEPAM PARA-BRAHMA SWAROOPAM - LIGHT  is the form of  eternal consciousness.

In INDIA, Diwali celebrations are spread over five days, as from Vasu Baras( Govatsa Dwadashi ), Dhanteras,  Naraka Chaturdashi , Lakshmi Puja , Bali Pratipada and Govardhan Puja , Yama Dwitiya or  Bhaiduj.
